The Crooked River Lighthouse was first illuminated in 1895. It was converted to electricity in 1933 and automated afterwards.

bullet It is a 103 feet tall steel structure. The view from the cupola is breathtaking! For A Panoramic View CLICK HERE.  The Gulf of Mexico, St. Georges Sound, Dog Island, St. George Island, The Crooked River, The Carrabelle River, Carrabelle and Tates Hell State Park can all be seen. Photo opportunities from the lighthouse are impressive.

bullet The Crooked River Lighthouse was built to replace the Dog Island Lighthouse. The Dog Island Lighthouse had suffered from beach erosion and several storms. A hurricane in 1873 destroyed both the tower and the Lighkeepers quarters.

bullet The Crooked River Light was used as a rear range light for a section of the deep channel that lies just west of Dog Island. The tower, two dwellings, oil house and other outbuildings cost $40,000 to build. Today only the tower remains. The two Lighthouse keeper's houses were sold and moved from their original location.
